Sleep isn’t a science, nor is it an art. It is a matter of precision, of getting it just perfect.
If you receive too little of it, it is bad. You’re tired, you are irate and it could be the first step to a ruined day. If you get too much of it, then you are weirdly tired, maybe even a little lethargic. You might have missed a few calls, or perhaps even a commitment with a friend, along with your day’s wasted.
Then there’s your personal sleeping style and position to consider — because we all know if we do not sleep the ideal way, which is our own way, then something will go wrong.
Much like baking, you have to get everything right, to come away with that perfect batch of “sleep.” In the grand scheme of things, mattresses play a huge role in that. It is one of the key ingredients in a fantastic night’s sleep.
And today we’re reviewing one that’s out to prove itself as one of the best mattresses out there — The Nectar Mattress. It’s a three-layer memory foam mattress with mid-level toughness to cover a broad selection of people’s sleeping preferences. High quality, smartly constructed and designed to help give you the best sleep you can ask for.
Does it succeed? Is it all that? We are here to help you find out.
Before anything else, in case you’re in a hurry, or just prefer a more visual review, here is a video below by Kelly and Mar from the Nectar Sleep YouTube channel:
Building Better Sleep Does Nectar Bed Need a Boxspring
With their headquarters in Palo Alto, California, Nectar Sleep is a mattress and bedding company that made the Nectar Mattress as their flagship memory foam bed.
Nectar Sleep has three mattresses with different profiles: The Nectar, which has a 12” profile; the Nectar Premier, which has a 13” profile; and the Nectar Premier Copper, which has a 14” profile. And as mentioned earlier it is a three-layer, all-foam bed. It consists of a quilted cover and breathable base later, with the three layers of foam between: gel-infused memory foam, support memory foam, and high-density polyfoam. Remember, the thickness isn’t everything, so it’s good to dive into the different parts of the mattress.
Let’s dig into each facet, shall we?

The Cover
Removable and wash friendly, the cover is made of TENCEL lyocell and cotton. Since both of the materials are fairly breathable and feel nice to the touch, you get a nice feel on your body.
Comfort Layer
Two comfort layers work hand-in-hand to provide you not just comfort, but also a balance that helps you distribute your weight evenly throughout the entire mattress.
The first layer is a 1-inch top layer that is made from quilted memory foam using a 4PCF Density, while the next layer is 3 inches and is made of 3.5PCF gel memory foam. Like a gentle embrace, this layer was designed so that it emulats like you are being embraced This is turn helps stops pressure points from building up, can help manage bodily aches, and can even help improve spinal alignment for side sleepers.
Transitional Layer
For the transitional layer, it has a high-density memory foam which measures about 1.75 inches rather than the usual polyfoam other mattresses have. This improvement of the foam enhances how the mattress hugs your body without sagging too much.
Support Layer
And finally, the service core. It consists of a 2.2 PCF High-density polyfoam that is about 5.25 inches thick. Together with the transitional layer, the polyfoam base gives the mattress a firmer base for the softer comfort layers. Because of this, you receive a balanced, medium-firm feel without compromising the support of the mattress as a whole.

How Does It Feel?
Giving it a whirl, or more accurately, a rest, will need some prep time when you open it out of the packaging. We suggest you order it in the morning and start setting up hours before sleeping because it will take exactly that, hours before it is going to expand and reach its entire height.
Like a good wine, it needs to breathe. Does Nectar Bed Need a Boxspring
Once you lie down, give it a few seconds and before you know it, the memory foam will start kicking into high gear and you’ll feel a soft embrace over your body. It’s a deep hug feeling to it that those who love sleeping “in” a bed instead of “on” it will love this one.
In terms of firmness, it is around medium firmness — balanced, in that respect. A 6/10 if ever. Firmness though is quite subjective, dependent not just on your taste, but also on your physicality. If you are a bit on the other hand, this may feel somewhat more firm to you than others might.
Positioning is the Key
Just how does the Nectar mattress feel, that depends on what position you sleep in.
If you’re a back sleeper, then the Nectar Mattress will feel fantastic for you. It gives you the support you need while keeping your spine in a nice neutral position. Your lumbar area however may need additional support, if it sinks a bit deeper but otherwise, it’s terrific for back sleepers.
For side sleepers, the memory foam’s conforms itself which allows your shoulders and hips to feel relief as you shift your weight down. The uniform pressure release of the mattress really counters the negative effect this sleeping place could have on your body, so this bed is looking like a great pick for this position.
Stomach sleepers may not choose this mattress. You’ll certainly feel a sink in your abdomen area with this place, and you’ll need to be very careful with that because it may impact your body adversely over time. A firmer mattress might be better suited to those who like sleeping this way.
Having a restless partner on the same mattress as you won’t be as annoying as with another mattress thanks to Nectar’s motion isolation and edge support features, so both you and your partner can wiggle about without the other knowing. Does Nectar Bed Need a Boxspring

Some Bodies to Love
For a more comprehensive breakdown, we are going to be getting into body types and how different body types react differently to the Nectar Mattress.
The Lightweight Sleeper
As expected, a light sleeper will find the Nectar to be tough on the body. They experienced the “hugging” sensation, but it wasn’t a very profound one. The experience could be described as a kind of “floating” feel to it. Usually, these kinds of sleepers require a soft to firm bed if they want that deep body hug.
But if you are a light sleeper and you’re looking for a firm bed that still has a bit of that hugging feel, then the Nectar Mattress would be great.
The Typical Sleeper
The average sleeper discovered that the Nectar mattress was just as advertised — firm with a deep, supportive feel that lets you sink in just enough, without it feeling like you are falling into the bed. They felt that it was a good product because no sagging was felt, the body relief it provided after a long day was superior regardless of which sleeping position they went to bed in.
Heavy Sleepers
Although still quite supportive, the Nectar Mattress was for those heavy sleepers who wanted something with moderate stability. There’ll be a little sagging when the mattress starts to hug and shape around heavyweight sleepers, but other than that, if this stability is your preference, it is a wonderful pick.
The Sleep Test
Although we tried to get to as much as we can with our trial , we know really having the ability to feel the mattress for yourself, giving it a real test is the best method to determine whether it is for you. As much as we would like to give you a decision, it’s still all about your preference and we can only act as mediators of information.
Your right mix of what you need and want to feel each evening.
As such, there are usually 90 to 120-day sleep trials for most mattresses. Nectar desired to one-up that, and provides a 365 day evaluation period before fully committing to it. It’s like properly courting your mattress over a long period of time instead of just after a few months of seeing each other.
It’s a wonderful comfort to know that option is there, just in case of anything.
Final Thoughts: Where Dreams Begin Does Nectar Bed Need a Boxspring

If the mattress you are looking for is one not too soft, as well as you are not a stomach sleeper, then the Nectar Mattress may as well be the perfect addition to your sleeping apparatus.
