Sleep is not a science, nor is it an art. It is a matter of precision, of getting it just perfect.
If you get too little of it, it’s bad. You’re tired, you’re irate and it might be the first step to a ruined day. If you get too much of it, you are weirdly tired, perhaps even a bit lethargic. You might have missed some calls, or maybe even a commitment with a friend, and your day’s wasted.
Then there’s your individual sleeping style and position to think about — because we all know if we don’t sleep the right way, which is our own way, then something will fail.
To be able to wake up completely awake, everything needs to be according to plan very much like baking. In the grand scheme of things, mattresses play a huge part in that. It’s one of the key ingredients in a fantastic night’s sleep.
And today we are reviewing one that’s out to establish itself as one of the top mattresses on the market — The Nectar Mattress. It’s a three-layer memory foam mattress with mid-level firmness to cover a broad selection of people’s sleeping preferences. High quality, smartly constructed and designed to help give you the best sleep you can request.
Does it succeed? Is it all that? We’re here to help you find out.
Before we begin, in case you’re in a rush, or just prefer a more visual review, here is a video below by Kelly and Mar from the Nectar Sleep YouTube channel:
Building Better Sleep Nectar Mattress Website
With their headquarters in Palo Alto, California, Nectar Sleep is a bedding and mattress firm that designed the Nectar Mattress as their flagship memory foam bed.
Nectar Sleep has three mattresses with different profiles: The Nectar, which has a 12” profile; the Nectar Premier, which has a 13” profile; and the Nectar Premier Copper, which has a 14” profile. And as mentioned earlier it’s a three-layer, all-foam bed. It consists of a quilted cover and breathable base later, with the three layers of foam between: gel-infused memory foam, support memory foam, and high-density polyfoam. Remember, the thickness isn’t everything, so it’s good to dive into the different parts of the mattress.
Let’s dig into every facet, shall we?

The Cover
Removable and wash friendly, the cover is made from TENCEL lyocell and cotton. Since both of the materials are pretty breathable and feel nice to the touch, you get a wonderful feel on your body.
The Layer for Comfort
Two comfort layers work hand-in-hand to give you not only comfort, but also a balance that makes it possible to distribute your weight evenly throughout the whole mattress.
The first layer is a 1-inch top layer that’s made of quilted memory foam with a 4PCF Density, while the second layer is 3 inches and is made of 3.5PCF gel memory foam. Like a gentle embrace, this layer was designed so that it emulats like you are being embraced This is turn helps stops pressure points from building up, can help manage bodily aches, and can help improve spinal alignment for side sleepers.
Transitional Layer
For the transitional layer, it has a high-density memory foam which measures about 1.75 inches rather than the usual polyfoam other mattresses have. Thanks to this technology the mattress is able to press against your sleeping body without losing any of it’s firmness.
Support Layer
And finally, the service core. Together with the transitional layer, the polyfoam base gives the mattress a firmer base for the softer comfort layers. As a result of this, you get a balanced, medium-firm sense without undermining the support of the mattress as a whole.

What’s it like?
Taking it out for a spin — or rather, for a sleep — takes a while right out of the box. We suggest you order it in the morning and start setting up hours before sleeping because it is going to take exactly that, hours before it’ll expand and reach its full height.
Like a good wine, it first needs to breathe. Nectar Mattress Website
After letting it rest out of the box for a few hours, lying down after a long day of impatiently waiting, you will feel a tender embrace start to surround you. It’s a deep hug feeling to it that those who love sleeping “in” a bed rather than “on” it will love this one.
The mattress’ firmness can be described as medium, not too hard, not to soft, it feels balanced. A 6/10 if ever. Firmness though is very subjective, dependent not just on your preference, but also on your physicality. If you’re a bit on the other hand, this may feel somewhat more firm to you than others would.
It’s about Positioning
Just how does the Nectar mattress feel, that depends on what position you sleep in.
If you’re a back sleeper, then the Nectar Mattress will feel fantastic for you. It gives you the support you need while keeping your spine in a perfect neutral position. Your pelvic region however may need additional support, in case it sinks a bit deeper but otherwise, it’s terrific for back sleepers.
For side sleepers, the memory foam’s conforms itself which allows your shoulders and hips to feel relief as you shift your weight down. The uniform pressure release of the mattress counters the negative impact this sleeping position could have on your body, so this bed is alreadylooking like a wonderful pick for this position.
Stomach sleepers may not want this mattress. You’ll definitely feel a sink in your abdomen area with this position, and you’ll need to be very careful with this since it might impact your body adversely over time. A firmer mattress may be better suited to people who enjoy sleeping this way.
Having a restless spouse on the same mattress as you won’t be as cumbersome as with another mattress thanks to Nectar’s motion isolation and edge support features, so both you and your partner can move about without the other finding out. Nectar Mattress Website

Body Types for Nectar
For a more comprehensive breakdown, we are going to be getting into body types and how different body types respond differently to the Nectar Mattress.
The Lightweight Sleeper
The lightweight sleeper will find the mattress quite small tough, which is to be expected. They still experienced the “hugging” sensation, but it was not a very deep one. The experience can be described as a kind of “floating” feel to it. Usually, such sleepers require a soft to firm bed if they want that deep body hug.
However, if you are a light sleeper and you’re searching for a firm mattress which still has a bit of that hugging feel, then the Nectar Mattress will be great.
The Typical Sleeper
The ordinary sleeper thought that the Nectar mattress was exactly as advertised — firm with a deep, supportive feel that lets you sink in just enough, without it feeling like you’re falling to the bed. They felt that it was a good product because no sagging was felt, the body relief it provided after a long day was great regardless of which sleeping position they went to bed in.
Heavy Sleepers
Although still very supportive, the Nectar Mattress was more for those heavy sleepers who wanted something with moderate stability. There’ll be a bit of sagging when the mattress begins to hug and form around heavyweight sleepers, but besides that, if this firmness is your preference, it is a wonderful pick.
The Sleep Test
Although we tried to cover as much as we can with our trial we know really being able to feel the mattress on your own, giving it an actual test is the best way to determine whether it’s for you. As much as we would want to give you a hard recommendation, it’s still all about your own preference and we can only act as mediators of information.
Your right mix of what you need and want to feel every night.
As such, there are usually 90 to 120-day sleep trials for most mattresses. Nectar wanted to one-up that, and offers a 365 day evaluation period before fully committing to it. It’s like properly getting to know your mattress over a long period of time instead of just after a few months of seeing each other.
It’s a wonderful comfort to know that option is there, only in the event of anything.
